Future Valmet to deliver recovery boiler single-drum conversion for Stora Enso's Veitsiluoto Mill in Finland
Metso Corporation's press release on November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. local time
Metso's Pulp, Paper and Power business, the future Valmet, and Stora Enso have signed an agreement on the single-drum conversion of Stora Enso Veitsiluoto Mill's recovery boiler. The conversion will be completed in the fall of 2014. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Pulp, Paper and Power's third quarter 2013 orders received.
The recovery boiler was built in 1977 and its current capacity is roughly 2,000 metric tons of dry solids per day. The upper and lower drum of the recovery boiler and the steam generating bank between them will be replaced by a new drum and separate boiler bank elements needed for heat recovery.
"The conversion will significantly extend the boiler's lifetime, improve the boiler's availability, secure safe operation and reduce maintenance costs. Further advantages offered by a single-drum conversion compared to replacing the existing design with a similar one are a shorter down-time and the reliability of the solution," says Olli YpyƤ, Sales Manager, Boiler Conversions, from Metso.
Veitsiluoto Mill is situated in Kemi, Finland, and is part of Stora Enso's Printing and Reading business area. The annual capacity of the integrated mill, with four paper machines and a pulp mill, groundwood mill, sawmill and sheeting plant, totals a million metric tons of office paper and coated magazine paper, as well as 160,000 cubic meters of sawn timber. The pulp mill's annual capacity of 375,000 metric tons is used as raw material for office papers. Veitsiluoto Mill has a workforce of roughly 1,000, around 750 of whom work for Stora Enso.
