Solution

Operator reported that Machine Diagnostics tool gave an alarm of uneven calender closing. They had also been experiencing web breaks when closing the calender.

The problem was investigated remotely from Valmet Performance Center with trend and analytics tools and the source of the issue was identified.

DS loading cylinder, and nip closing controller parameters as well as web draw set values were optimized remotely. The influence to nip closing was confirmed both remotely from data and visually onsite.

Results

Calender operation has been stable since then.

Web breaks at calender have reduced significantly.
