Bulk-saving reeling and winding

Reeling and winding are the two steps in the boardmaking process where the bulk of produced board can be either preserved or ruined. Nip loads that are too high are the main reasons for losing bulk. Valmet’s combination of bulk-saving reeling and winding are essential for e.g. coated board makers.

Valmet's center-driven reels (OptiReel Linear and OptiReel Center) – precise load control and use of center drives minimize bulk loss and the uniques OptiWin Belt – the ultimate winder for FBB, nip loads are less than 50% compared to a two-drum winder.

The total bulk saving potential is up to 4% with a combination of OptiReel center-driven reeling and OptiWin Belt winding.

OptiWin Drum two-drum winder

The OptiWin two-drum winder is renowned for its high capacity and utmost reliability. Winders can be equipped with splicers, reel spool handling, gluing systems, soft winding drums, drive control and many other features to improve quality, productivity and user friendliness.

OptiWin Drum two-drum base winder

The OptiWin two-drum base winder is renowned for its extreme robustness and utmost reliability. It is ideal for grades that tolerate a high nip loads, such as linerboard, corrugating medium, uncoated wood-free, and DIP news. The level of automation is high to reach high capacity.

OptiWin Pro two-drum proactive winder

OptiWin Pro winder has the highest paper machine capacity due to its faster sequences, and many advanced winding features.

OptiWin Pulp winder

The OptiWin Pulp is a two-drum winder specially developed for winding of both fluff and dissolving pulp. Winding of pulp differs significantly from winding of paper or board. Pulp winding requires different solutions, e.g. winding, set changes and tail threading.

OptiWin Belt belt supported winder

OptiWin Belt features the belt-bed winding method, which is renowned for its outstanding performance and unrivaled roll quality. Belt supported winding is advanced two-drum winding for demanding grades, such as coated board, LWC and release grades.

Dual Unwind for high-capacity winding

Dual Unwind is a fast way to make a parent roll change at winder. Double unwinding gives more production and higher winding capacity. Proven technology with a solid 10-year track record with over 50 references!

Rebuilding with state-of-the-art technology in MM Količevo BM 3

In October 2023 MM Board & Paper started-up the rebuilt board machine BM 3 at the MM Količevo mill in Slovenia. The investment for the board machine consisted of state-of-the-art technology and included three main updates: the dryer section rebuild; new sizing technology; and a new winder.
