Over the Edge for Make-A-Wish Georgia
Aug 21, 2024
On August 17, Valmet embarked on an exhilarating adventure in Atlanta—the 4th Annual Over the Edge for Wishes event at the Intercontinental Hotel in Georgia. Hosted by Make-A-Wish®, this inspiring gathering brought together over 30 participants, all united by a shared purpose: to make a difference in the lives of children facing critical health challenges.
Over the Edge 2024: A Thrilling Experience
Imagine catching your breath, stepping up to the edge, and then rappelling 22 stories down the side of the Intercontinental Hotel in Atlanta. The adrenaline rush is real, but the impact is even greater. The first 80 fundraisers who raised $1,500 or more earned a coveted spot to go Over the Edge for Make-A-Wish Georgia. For over 40 years, Make-A-Wish has been transforming lives by granting life-changing wishes to these brave children.
Valmet’s Commitment to Social Responsibility
Valmet’s participation in this effort is part of our global social responsibility program. In North America, we proudly support Make-A-Wish® Georgia with the theme of “Equal Opportunities for Wellbeing.” Our team’s unwavering dedication reflects our commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where we operate.
The Over the Edge Experience: Rappelling for a Cause
Emily Howard, Internal Communications Specialist, North America rappelled 22 stories off the Intercontinental Hotel in Atlanta to represent Valmet and North America’s support of Make-A-Wish Georgia. Emily exemplifies Valmet’s spirit of giving back and encourages her fellow valmeteers to see how they can take part in North America Social Responsibility Initiative.
Making an Impact: Meet Ollie
Make-a-Wish Georgia expressed their thanks:
Team Valmet!
YOU are the reason we are able to make wishes like Ollie’s come true, so THANK YOU….
Summer means blockbusters, and we are having a blockbuster summer so far with more than 150+ wishes being granted in June, July and August! Summer movies mean superheroes, and superheroes mean wish kids like Ollie!
At the age of four, Ollie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He went from running around with his wonder twin, Owen, to spending time in and out of hospitals. Yet through it all, Ollie, kept his superhero smile and warrior spirit! For his wish, he wished to go to the Avengers campus at Disneyland meet Spider-Man! Spidey rolled out the red carpet, taught Ollie and Owen secret handshakes, web-shooter training, and even some Spidey poses!
When returning from their trip, Ollie's mom said, "Ollie has never felt confident enough to share during show & tell at school, but he couldn't WAIT to share his Spidey doll and tell all his friends about how he got to meet Spider-Man himself!"
Ollie had a blockbuster wish experience, and we’d like to thank you for your support of wishes that bring joy, hope, and happiness to little wish heroes like Ollie!
