Valmet supports children’s wellbeing and education in Thailand
Jan 9, 2023
Valmet’s social responsibility program supports selected local projects around the world for the wellbeing of society and the environment. In the Asia-Pacific area, the project focuses on supporting “Equal opportunities for wellbeing” and is carried out in collaboration with The Mirror Foundation in Thailand.
Through the project Valmet aims at helping children living in the country´s northern Chiang Rai province to have better learning and living conditions.
In collaboration with the Mirror Foundation, three schools were selected in the program. Pha Khwang Wittaya school (320 children), Thung Luang school (130 children) and Mae Yao Wittaya school (450 children) are located in remote areas of northern Thailand, where there is limited access for example to clean water and toilet facilities.
Water purifiers improve the hygiene level at schools
The program´s main target is to organize safe, clean water for children in all three schools by renewing old water purifiers, improve current toilet and shower facilities so that children have access to safe sanitation and handwashing, and improve learning possibilities by repairing a deteriorated library in the Pha Khwang Wittaya school.
“The East Asia Pacific region is home for more than one-quarter of the world´s children and many countries in the area are facing education challenges affecting millions of children. It is important for us as a global company to enhance children´s wellbeing and possibility to learning and show our responsibility towards local communities around the world. In Asia-Pacific we had three very good candidates of which The Mirror Foundation operating in Thailand was selected. I look forward to our cooperation with the foundation to improve the wellbeing of students in remote area”, says Petri Paukkunen, Area President, Asia-Pacific.
Better learning possibilities for children living in remote areas
The project was officially launched with an agreement signing ceremony at Valmet’s office in Laem Chabang Service Center, Thailand.
Ms. Prapai Kedsara, Vice Chairperson, The Mirror Foundation is happy for the collaboration, and says:
“I would like to thank Valmet for giving this opportunity to our foundation and seeing the importance of supporting the children´s learning on the remote, mountain areas of Thailand. We promise that we will utilize the donation money to the most benefits for all children and the community as well.”

Valmet's global social responsibility program
Valmet has expanded its global social responsibility program initiated in 2020 with new area-specific local projects around the world.
Valmet’s social responsibility program is part of the company’s sustainability agenda implementation. The program is based on three themes promoting science, nature and equal opportunities: ‘Towards the future with science’, ‘Protecting the planet for next generations’ and ‘Equal opportunities for wellbeing’.
Based on these themes, several local projects in Valmet’s operating areas around the world have been selected to the program. Valmet’s local personnel has participated in the planning and preparation of the projects, and the final selection has been made by employee voting.
