Burgo, Verzuolo PM 9 raises LWC speed record to 1904 m/min

Metso Paper will supply a board machine dry end rebuild for Weyerhaeuser Valliant, Oklahoma, USA. The rebuild is designed to increase line capacity and to help manufacture high quality liner board grades. The dry end machine rebuild will start up in late 2005.
The rebuild consists of dryer can relocations with new framing, threading from the end dryer section to the last calender stack, new ValReel with new spools and a winder unwind rebuild.
The design speed of the machine will be 3,000 FPM (914 m/min), and it will produce Unbleached Kraftliner liner board with basis weight ranges of 42 to 69 lb/1000ft2 (205 - 338 g/m2).
The Valliant mill is located in the southeast corner of Oklahoma, and is one of the largest producers of board products in the United States.

According to Mill Manager Roland Heiss and Mill Production Manager Alberto Martini, the OptiConcept paper machine ran at an average speed of 1904 m/min (6,247 fpm) for a 24-hour period on 25-26 October 2004.
This is the first time an LWC paper machine is run at more than 1900 m/min. Verzuolo PM 9 reached its previous record, 1860 m/min, less than five months ago, on 10-11 June.
Metso Paper supplied the world record machine in 2001. With a design speed of 2000 m/min and a wire width of 10,450 mm, the paper making line is the world's largest for LWC paper production.
Metso Paper -supplied machines also hold the second (UPM Rauma PM 4) and third position (UPM Augsburg PM 3) in the LWC paper world speed ranking.
