Kymi Paper's new PM 8 sets world record coater speed

The new coating line at UPM-Kymmene's Kymi Paper unit was inaugurated on August 5 by Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen in Kuusankoski, Finland. The ceremony was attended by a group of visiting dignitaries.
Tor Bergman, President & CEO of Metso Corporation, congratulated the hosts on the successful start-up and high-quality paper.
During the inauguration, the machine set a new top speed of 2,204 metres per minute, which is a phenomenal new world record speed for off-line paper coating.
Supplied by Metso Paper, the new coating line includes a coating color kitchen, an OptiReel Plus reel, an OptiLoad multinip calender, an OptiMatt Slim-line soft calender, two OptiReel rereelers, a WinRoll winder and a WinBelt rewinder.
The coating line has an annual production capacity of 400,000 tonnes of UPM Finesse fine paper.
