Metso Paper inaugurates world leading tissue technology center in Karlstad, Sweden

Metso Paper has inaugurated its extended Tissue Technology Center in Karlstad, Sweden. The facility is a world-leading center for tissue technology in terms of both technology and capacity.

The close to MEUR 20 investment comprises a complete pilot line for continuous tissue production. The plant has a new pilot tissue machine equipped with advanced automation systems, a new stock preparation system and a new building.

The ongoing trials focus on new technology for tissue production, new tissue paper properties, different choice of furnish etc. The development projects are carried out together with the world's leading tissue producers. These companies' trials in the Metso Paper pilot plant often form the starting phase of an order for a new tissue paper machine or a major rebuild.

The pilot tissue machine was transferred to Metso Paper Karlstad from the United States, following Metso's takeover of Beloit technology last year. The pilot machine had been recently erected in Rockton, Illinois.

Metso Paper invested another MEUR 10 in a pilot tissue machine for through-air drying (TAD) in 1999. Together, these two pilot production lines meet the customers' growing demand for pilot trials. They also increase the time available for Metso Paper's own technical development activities.

The inauguration ceremony was carried out jointly by Mr. Juhani Pakkala, President of Metso Paper and Mr. Ingemar Eliasson, Governor of the county of Värmland.
