Metso Paper rebuilds Mondi Swiecie PM 1 into kraftliner production

Metso Paper will supply Mondi Packaging Swiecie S.A. in Poland with a rebuild of their PM 1 sack paper machine to produce Light Weight Kraftliner. The rebuilt machine, which will have a capacity of 180,000 tpy, is scheduled to start up in June 2007. The order is valued at more than EUR 10 million.
The modernization of the 6.1-m-wide (wire) machine contains, among other things, an OptiFlo II headbox and an OptiFormer gap former. The rebuilt PM 1 will produce kraftliner and extra top liner grades.
In selecting the supplier for the project, Mondi Packaging Swiecie SA was especially impressed with Metso's technology, particularly the combination of OptiFlo II headbox and OptiFormer forming section, which produces an exceptionally homogeneous web, giving potential to achieve high strength properties.
The Swiecie mill, located 140 km south of Gdansk, is widely known for the very high quality of its products. The mill has five machines with a total production capacity of app. 800 000 tpy.
