The PM 6 at Papierfabrik Palm's Wörth mill in Germany continues to set new records for containerboard production. The Metso machine, which set a new daily production world record in April 2007, has now set a new 24-hour world speed record by running at an average speed of 1,599 m/min on July 21-22, 2008. The top speed was 1,608 m/min.
According to Wörth mill manager Dr. Thomas Welt, the machine produced corrugated medium at a basis weight of 95-105 g/m² during the record period. "Running efficiency was 91.4% and total production on reel was 2,262 tons, and average production of 101.5 tons per hour."
PM 6 was supplied by Metso Paper in 2002. It produces testliner at 90-160 g/m², corrugating medium at 80-150 g/m² and Schrenz at 70-120 g/m². With its current production levels the mill will be able to exceed their 600,000 tpy design capacity.
The 10.3-m-wide PM 6 reached its first world record title in late 2005 by running at 1,463 m/min for 24 hours. The second world record title was achieved in September 2006 by running at an average speed of 1,511 m/min.
In addition to excellent runnability, the production line also produces all grades with top quality.
