Metso Paper supplies chemical handling systems to UPM in China

UPM-Kymmene (Changshu) Paper Industry Co. Ltd. has ordered wet end chemical handling and surface size handling systems from Metso Paper to its new paper machine PM 1 in China. The delivery will take place in the first half of 2005.
The delivery will complement the OptiConcept paper making line which UPM-Kymmene (Changshu) ordered last year from Metso Paper. The new paper making line to be erected in Jiangsu province will manufacture copying and offset paper with a capacity of 450,000 t/a.
Metso Paper's delivery includes chemical handling systems with installed main processes, starch, bentonite and filler handling and systems for polymer, pigment and other chemical handling. The total delivery includes the equipment, piping, steel constructions, engineering and automation.
The Changshu project continues the co-operation between UPM and Metso Paper. Previously Metso Paper has delivered chemical handling systems also to UPM Kuusankoski and Rauma mills and corresponding systems to UPM mills in Germany, United Kingdom and North America.
UPM is one of the leading paper producers in the world. In 2003, the turn-over was close to EUR 10 billion and the personnel totaled about 35 000. The main products are printing and writing papers, converting materials and wood products. UPM's shares are listed on the Helsinki and New York Stock Exchanges.
