Palm Paper Ltd, a member of the German Palm group, has placed an order with Metso Paper for a StreamLine multi-station roll wrapping machine and extensive conveyor system for its new King´s Lynn mill in England. This will be the second wrapping machine and the third conveyor system Metso Paper will have delivered to Papierfabrik Palm. In 1999 Palm started up a StreamLine wrapping machine and conveyor system at their Eltmann mill and in 2002 Metso Paper supplied an extensive roll handling system for the Wörth PM 6.

The King´s Lynn wrapping machine is fully automated and realized with Metso's non-hydraulic principle, which means that all actuators and components that have traditionally been hydraulic are now either electric gear motor operated or pneumatic. Elimination of hydraulic systems simplifies maintenance and saves space due to the lack of field piping and hydraulic unit. Moreover, the StreamLine wrapping machine features optimized wrap material selection to provide efficient use of materials, thus improving wrapping economy.

The wrapping machine also features Metso's original Onesider technology. The unique Onesider solution actually divides the wrapping process into two sides – the operational side, which is open for visual roll flow control, and the material side, which offers easier wrapping material replenishment as all material flow to the wrapping process is from one side. A compact, one-sided machine needs considerably less floor space than a conventional multi-station wrapping machine.

King's Lynn StreamLine The fully automatic conveyor system conveys the newsprint rolls from the winders via the wrapping machine to automatic crane storage. The storage slat conveyors distribute the mill's production to 8 crane infeed points. From storage, the rolls for printing houses are automatically conveyed to trailer loading.

Altogether, this large-scale conveyer system includes over 150 pieces of roll handling equipment. The entire conveyor system works without hydraulics. The roll flow from winder to warehouse is controlled and tracked with Metso's DNAroad roll data system.

The 135-year-old family-owned German company Papierfabrik Palm GmbH & Co. KG produces newsprint and corrugating paper on six paper machines at three locations. With the King´s Lynn PM 7, capacity will increase to 1.8 million tons of paper. Corrugated boxes are continuing to be produced in 18 plants. The Palm Group achieved sales of € 846 million in 2007 with 2,800 employees.

Metso is a global engineering and technology corporation with 2007 net sales of over EUR 6 billion. Its almost 27,000 employees in approximately 50 countries serve customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries. www.metso.com
