Metso Paper to rebuild Stora Enso's Nymölla paper mill in Sweden

Stora Enso Fine Paper AB has ordered a rebuild of the copy paper machine PM 1 of its Nymölla mill in Sweden. The order is a part of a rebuild project with a total value of more than EUR 20 million. The start-up of the whole rebuild is planned for February 2004.

The existing machine calender of PM 1 will be replaced by a two-nip OptiSoft SlimLine soft calender. The soft roll covers are Metso’s Summit Series type and the calender delivery also includes a FoilForce tail threading system.

The predryer and afterdryer sections will be modified according to Metso Paper's most modern HiRun system and VacRoll concepts. The wire section exhaust system capacity will be upgraded to a modern level and a complete new heat recovery stack will be installed in the dryer section. The new stack will replace two existing old stacks.

Metso Automation will replace the existing QCS with a PaperIQ quality control system including MD and CD controls. The delivery also includes an upgrade and extension of the Sensodec 6S Condition and Runnability Monitoring System.

The target of this investment is to improve the quality of the copy paper and also gain the capability to produce color copy papers. In addition, the rebuild will improve overall paper machine runnability.

Stora Enso's Nymölla mill is one of the leading fine paper producers in the world. The mill produces uncoated fine paper, mainly copy paper, in the basis weight range of 60-160 g/m2.
