Metso Paper to supply state-of-the-art tissue production line for Sofidel in Germany

Metso Paper will supply a complete, state-of-the-art tissue production line to Sofidel S.p.A of Italy for the company’s new mill in Germany. The line is scheduled to start production during the second half of 2006 in Stendal, Germany. The value of the Metso order is not disclosed.
Metso’s scope of delivery will comprise a complete stock preparation system and a tissue machine with auxiliary equipment, air and ventilation equipment, including Advantage AirCap yankee hood, a Metso Yankee cylinder and dust management systems. The machine will be equipped with the new multilayering OptiFlo TIS II headbox for excellent paper formation and energy savings in the approach system.
The tissue machine will have a width of 5.5 m, an operating speed of 2000 m/min, and a daily production of 170 - 220 tons of high-quality facial, toilet and towel grades.
The stock preparation system will include bale pulping, deflaking, refining, mixing and machine screening for both long and short fiber, as well as broke collection and handling systems.
Automation systems will be supplied by Metso Automation.
The market value of these types of tissue production lines ranges from EUR 5 million to 15 million, depending on the scope of delivery and production output.
Sofidel already operates seven tissue machines supplied by Metso and former Valmet on different locations in Italy, France and Poland. Sofidel SpA is based in Italy. Sofidel Group was established in 1966 and remains today, a jointly owned family Group. It has manufacturing facilities in Italy, France and Poland employing around 1,900 people and has an annual turnover of MEUR 550. The Sofidel Group specializes in the manufacture of paper and its conversion into paper products such as toilet paper, kitchen towels, tissues, napkins and industrial products.
