The Metso supplied PM 1 paper manufacturing line was successfully started up at Myllykoski’s Plattling Papier in Germany in the beginning of December, 2007. The PM 1 line, which is one of the largest in the world, represents the latest SC paper technology from Metso Paper and Metso Automation.
"Even though we are still in the optimizing phase, we can clearly see that the new line will become one of the best SC-A paper machines in the world. The printing results have so far been extremely good compared with other SC-papers" comments Mr. Caius Murtola, Project Director of Plattling Papier.
The delivery scope from Metso comprises complete wood handling system with GentleBarking debarking line for the PGW (Pressure Groundwood) line. The wood handling system is designed to handle 225 solid m³ softwood per hour. The PGW line comprises eight pressure grinders coupled into four tandem lines. Also included are chemicals handling, screening, refining and bleaching systems for the whole line.
The paper machine, PM 1, is of the OptiConcept design and has a wire width of 11.3 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min. A special feature of the PM 1 is the OptiLoad TwinLine on-line multi-nip calender. The whole production is handled with two WinRoll winders with an automatic StreamLine roll wrapping and handling system. The winders and roll wrapping system are capable of handling large customer rolls up to a width of 5.2 m.
Both the PGW mill and the paper mill are equipped with Metso ventilation and heat recovery systems. Also included are dust collectors, droplet separators and sound attenuators in the paper mill.
Metso Automation has provided a comprehensive automation and quality management solution for the PGW mill as well as for the PM 1 line. The automation network is based on the metsoDNA automation and PaperIQ quality control system with non-scanning IQInsight moisture measurement and CD-profilers. Kajaani analyzers measure various fiber properties. There is also a Sensodec 6S runnability and condition monitoring system for predictive maintenance and a DNAforesight web break camera system.
Metso further has a full-scope long-term maintenance agreement covering the entire new mill. The operations consist of roll maintenance and daily maintenance, the focus being on preventive and predictive activities. With a team of 40 persons on site Metso takes care of mechanical, electrical and civil maintenance. Main target for the new type of agreement is to secure overall performance of the mill utilizing the most advanced maintenance methods and support of the original equipment supplier.
