Stora Enso starts up Biron PM 26 in Wisconsin, USA

Stora Enso North America has successfully started up the rebuilt PM 26 at its Biron, Wisconsin mill, USA.

The Metso delivered equipment on this LWC machine includes a SymBelt shoe press, dryer section rebuild, coater rebuild, OptiReel Plus, re-reeler rebuild, and supercalender rebuild. Also included were upgrades to air systems, controls and threading systems. In addition, a new WinBelt winder will be commissioned in early April to help process the increased production for the PM 26 line.

Stora Enso Project Manager, Ryan Kluck, summarized the early results of the project as very encouraging. Said Kluck, “We are very pleased with overall quality and productivity of the rebuilt PM line."

This machine rebuild was previously announced as part of Stora Enso North America’s Profit Enhancement Program (PEP) that includes targeted capital investments of $250 million. Initially announced in August 2002, the plan aims to improve Stora Enso’s competitiveness significantly in North America and position the operations to become more profitable in the world’s largest paper market.
