The rebuild of the coating section on board machine BM1 at Iggesunds Bruk in Sweden was performed successfully on time in November 2004. According to Gunnar Fälldin, project manager at Iggesund, "target of the rebuild was to upgrade BM1 for production of high quality triple coated board similar to the one produced on BM2. Besides freeing capacity on BM2, the BM1 rebuild also strengthens our delivery readiness of triple coated board. We have been satisfied since both the project and obtained results have met our expectations."
In order to achieve the target board quality, the board machine rebuild included a new coating section. The ValCoat coating station, which is based on applicator roll type coating technology, was the key element of the rebuild. The over 30 references sold fully prove the quality and capacity potential of the ValCoat coating technology.
The delivery also included two PowerDry Classic air dryers, a cooling/heating cylinder group as well as air systems for the drying section with auxiliary equipment. The erection supervising, start-up assistance as well as training were also included in the delivery scope.
The rebuilt line will be capable to produce highest quality triple-coated solid bleached board (SBB) for consumer packages, with basis weights of 160 to 380 g/m². The web width on the coater is 4016 mm and the maximum machine speed 600m/min.
Iggesunds Bruk belongs to Iggesund Paperboard, which is regarded as quality leader of SBB board. Iggesund Paperboard has a total annual paperboard capacity of about 535.000 tons produced in Iggesunds Bruk mill (300.000 tons) and in Workington mill in the UK (235.000 tons).
Iggesund Paperboard, in turn, is part of the Holmen group, a Swedish producer of newsprint, paperboard, kraft pulp and sawn timber with a turnover of about SEK 16 billion in 2003 and some 4900 employees.
