Valmet Converting to establish new technology centre in Italy

In the wake of a very successful year of business growth and the launch of several new products in 2000, Valmet Converting is delighted to announce the launch of a new technology centre at its Valmet Rotomec SpA business unit, near Milan in northern Italy.

This significant investment project has been approved by the Board of parent company, Valmet Corporation, which has recently been renamed Metso Paper, Inc. The new Valmet Converting Technology Centre will open early in 2002.

This will be a significant research and development facility for improving customer processes across the whole spectrum of converting equipment currently provided by the Group, one of the world’s largest providers of converting solutions.

Valmet customers will benefit in many ways, not least for having at their disposal, perhaps for the first time in the history of the converting business, a technology centre for user trials and the enhancement of existing processes.

The centre will feature Rotomec gravure and flexographic printing technology, coating & laminating, Atlas & Titan slitting, rewinding and handling solutions, General vacuum metallizing systems and other technologies from within the Group’s product range.

Covering an area of approx. 2000 m2 and adjoining the existing production facility at Valmet Rotomec in San Giorgio Monferrato, near to Alessandria in northern Italy, work will commence in the spring of this year.

This will be a ‘centre of excellence’ and a world first for the development of converting processes across the 4 principal market sectors which Valmet Converting serves, namely: Flexible Packaging Materials, Film & Paper Converting, Plastic Film Production and Special Applications (eg, electronic, optical and security products).
