Valmet to supply coated fine paper production line to Modo Paper

The Swedish Modo Paper AB has placed an order with Valmet for a major production line for double-coated fine paper. The delivery to the Husum mill in Central Sweden will be an extensive one, including a paper coating machine, several other paper finishing units and major modernization of the mill's paper machine No. 8. The value of the entire Husum mill modernization project totals app. SEK 2 billion, of which the Valmet order makes up almost half.
The annual capacity of the new production line, to be started up in April 2001, will be 300 000 tons of coated fine paper. Deliveries will be handled mainly by Valmet's units in Järvenpää and Jyväskylä, Finland.
The paper finishing line is composed of a new OptiCoater coating machine (incl. a matt calender), a multi-roll OptiLoad calender, two OptiReel rereelers and, among other things, a WinBelt winder.
The modernization of the mill's PM 8 paper machine includes a new dilution controlled OptiFlo headbox, modernization of the forming section to an OptiFormer, press section rebuild using the shoe press design, dryer section rebuild, and reel rebuild. The speed of the PM, which has a wire width of 7 300 mm, will be upgraded to 1 300 m/min.
Modo Paper AB is the third largest fine paper producer in Europe. Its product lines include coated and uncoated office papers, art papers and wrapping papers. Net sales of the company totals app. SEK 19 billion and its personnel number 6 500. Last year, the Husum mill produced a total of 525 000 tons of office and wrapping papers and 660 000 tons of pulp. The mill, employing 1 270 people, is located on the east coast of Sweden, 600 km north of Stockholm.
