Wood handling

A wood handling line delivered by Valmet has successfully been started up at Stora Enso Kaukopää production unit in Imatra, Finland. The first running with material was done on August 10, 2022 and high capacity operation continued the following week and went well. After the test running in full operation period the operation was handed over to Stora Enso on September 14, 2022, two days ahead of schedule.

“We needed a third wood handling line which would supply chips to both Kaukopää and Tainionkoski production units. The choice of supplier fell on Valmet as our earlier lines came from them and we wanted similar spare parts and the similar chip quality and capacity”, says Kimmo Nikunen, Project Manager at Stora Enso.

“The start-up was smooth and after making sure everything was ready and adjusted to an optimized condition, the line was handed over to the customer”, says Mikko Rajala, Project Manager at Valmet.

This delivery is a typical Nordic type of wood handling including log infeed, debarking, chipping, elevator, screw conveyors and bark handling with bark press and crusher.
